Partner & Family Visas
Partner visas allow eligible spouses and de facto partners of Australian citizens,
Australian permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens to live in Australia.
Depending on your circumstances and where you are when applying, different visa pathways may apply.
Visa Options
Partner (Provisional) visa – Subclass 309
Partner (Migrant) visa – Subclass 100
Partner (Temporary) visa – Subclass 820
Partner (Permanent) visa – Subclass 801
Prospective Marriage visa – Subclass 300
Who it may suit
You may wish to explore a Partner visa if you are married to, or in a genuine de facto relationship with, an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
The Prospective Marriage visa may be relevant to eligible applicants intending to marry their prospective spouse in Australia.
Key considerations
Partner visa applications involve more than establishing that a marriage or relationship exists.
The Department may consider the history and nature of the relationship, financial
arrangements, household arrangements, social aspects of the relationship and the parties’ commitment to each other.
The appropriate pathway can also depend on whether the applicant is inside or outside Australia and their current immigration circumstancesia.
